"Even though I'd seen him before, I was still caught off guard when I heard his deep, gravely, good-for-blues voice..." (Pamela J Miller - The Big Shout)
Based in the suburbs of Philadelphia, Dave Marshall & The Mojo Band "play the blues and whatever else we get into" in the bars and clubs, as well as festivals and private parties, throughout the tri-state region. In addition to their originals, the band likes to pay tribute to the great blues masters - Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, "The Three Kings", etc. When the occasion calls, this versatile band can even tailor its music to suit a wedding or holiday performance. Depending on the venue, they have also been known to play classic rock, r&b, and country.
"Jumpy blues from Pennsylvania ... heart-felt blues with a soulful point of view." (Ed Ivey - Blues Revue)
Dave began writing the title track to their CD, THE BLUES TOLD US, while traveling back and forth to the hospital to be with his beloved wife, Adele, who was suffering from and being treated for acute leukemia. He finished the song in the weeks following her death in August of 1996. This song, as well as several others on the CD, is a genuine expression of his deep love and overwhelming grief. These songs are born of actual anguish and pain.
"They come from my fractured soul. The blues don't get any more real than this!" (Dave Marshall)
These low-down, heart-wrenching blues are tastefully complimented by shuffles that range from snappy and exhilarating to soothing and soulful. The band creates a seductive, driving edge that must be experienced! This is 72 minutes of all original blues. If you like the blues, you will love THE BLUES TOLD US!
"This band is fantastic! " (Dave Robinson - Chester Blues Group)
"My favorite band in the whole damn land! They ain't just good, they is grand!" is how Dave introduces the Mojo Band at the end of each performance. Unassuming guitarist Eric Miller's play extends from the subtly tasteful to the chilling and breathtaking. The rhythm section is anchored by drummer Dave Beaver, who brings a natural exuberance and a style that echoes the great drummers of the past. Recently, bass duties have been shared by Dave's stepson, Frank Kessler (when he's not playing with his band, LAZY EYE), as well as seasoned regional bass veterans, John McGovern and Donnie Butler.
"You guys are way too good to be playing in a joint like this!" (Bruce Lauer - Chelsy's Tavern)
